Subject: Stan Haley passed away on April 5, 2009
Date: April 9, 2009 (uploaded April 12, 2009)
Stan Haley was an early TCBA member and was TCBA's first Chainwheel Chatter editor. His obituary was published in the Lansing State Journal on April 10, 2009.
Haley, Stan
Stan Haley left us unexpectedly on Sunday, April 5, 2009. A delivery person of the Lansing State Journal for the last 15 years, he graduated from Michigan State University in 1990. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn, sons Steighton and Jason, brothers Geoff and Brian, his dog, Oscar, the damn cat, and his extended family of restaurant rug rats, too many to list. He loved everyone he let into his life and found amusement in everyone else. Non-judgmental yet very opinionated, lover of the arts, literature, history, avid cyclist, amateur life coach, a little too honest for most folks, laughed at himself as much as he laughed at others. His laughter was contagious and filled a room. He loved life and lived it to its fullest everyday. He was generous to a fault and a most sincere man. Greasy diners to five-star restaurants, he enjoyed all they had to offer. Old coffee (the older the better) to a fine Bordeaux; homemade lumpy, uneven German chocolate cake to the chocolate souffle you had to order before dinner, he loved them all. A foreign film may have been followed by The Waitress in his Netflix queue. He loved the latest kitchen gadgets and fiended for the latest electronic technology yet was certain there was an ointment out there for you if you Twittered. He found something to appreciate in everything and everyone. That is how he lived his life, made his friends and how he'll be remembered in all of us. He was an original. Services will be held on Saturday, April 11 at Chapel in the Pines, 101 W. Jolly Rd., Lansing at 4:00 p.m. Life celebration immediately following at Beggar's Banquet, 218 Abbott Rd., East Lansing. (sorry for uploading this notice tardily, Ed)

Subject: Ride of Silence, May 20, 2009, 7:00 pm
Date: January 18, 2009
Join cyclists worldwide in a silent slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph/20 kph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.
[NOTE: Lenny Provencher will be leading TCBA's Ride of Silence, watch Rideline for details]
WHY DOES THIS ORGANIZATION EXIST?
• To HONOR those who have been injured or killed
• To RAISE AWARENESS that we are here
• To ask that we all SHARE THE ROAD
THE RIDE OF SILENCE WILL NOT BE QUIET
On May 20, 2009, at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.
In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride Of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed. (Read the full history here...)
The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride. There is no brochure, no sponsors, no registration fees and no t-shirt. The ride, which is held during Bike Safety month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed or injured.

Tri-County Bicycle Association is proud to be a volunteer organization. It is our volunteers that make this one of the most successful bike clubs in the United States. In order to continue serving the members of the TCBA, we are looking for a few members who would be willing to serve on the newly formed Website Committee.
The Website Committee will determine, with the Board’s approval, what goes on the biketcba.org site, and the layout/format of the design of our home page. They will work together to ensure our website is current and up-to-date, providing our members with information, photos, and links to the various events we hold throughout the year. This will include the multiple rides we sponsor, as well as other events, such as the picnic and Holiday party.
If you have web knowledge/experience and would like to enhance the web page for our members, and those visitors, who we hope would eventually join us on our sponsored rides or become new members, please contact committee leader Ed Noonan or the Committee at website@biketcba.org.
In addition, we would like to know what you, the TCBA members, would like to see regarding the organization’s web site. If you have any ideas you’d like to suggest for a design or format, please submit your input to the Committee at the email address above.
Remember, membership in TCBA is relatively inexpensive compared to other organizations one may belong to. The enjoyment we all receive from the events we participate in as TCBA members is undeniable. Get involved in our organization and make it be what you want. Volunteer your talents and time and reap the benefits of the fellowship and fun this organization was built on
