Amputee Cyclist

Postby absrideforhope » Wed May 19, 2010 5:51 pm

Hey everyone,
My name is Chris and I am 33 year's old. I am a lower right leg amputee. This will be my first Dalmac ride. I had started out on May1st doing a loaded Michigan to Idaho ride for kids born with Amniotic Band Syndrome (which is what cost me a leg) but I got hurt the first day and had to cancel. Nothing serious but a blister to an amputee can be a show stopper!
Anyways, Im doing the East ride this year on the Trek Allant touring bike that I got for my cross country ride. I look forward to meeting those of you that I can and riding with you. :)
Keep in touch!

Chris

Welcome Chris! I'm not an East route rider, but we are all "DALMACians" alike ;) I ride the 5 Day route and can tell you that no matter what route you ride, you will be surrounded by wonderful people. Do you live in the Lansing area? If so, you are always welcome to ride with me and/or my riding buddies. We get out several times a week (in the evenings).

Have Fun!! See you on the road

I am very excited for the ride :)
I live in Beaverton (Near Midland) so I try to ride on the Rail trail from Midland to Clare as much as I can. Its a wonderful stretch.

Cool. I have a brother in Beaverton. He is not a cyclist, though.

I think once upon a time, like in the 80s, the East Route used to go through Beaverton on its way to West Branch.

My son and I will be riding the east route after four years on the 4 day west route. I live near Midland and ride the trail often with a trip up to the Clare area on the weekends. So if you interested let me know and we can arrange a time. The east route uses the trail from the Tridge to the Loomis Road brance and then goes up Loomis Road to Mansiding over to old 27 route (Clare Road). I try to get several rides using that route to get some hill training in and also get a 110 mile ride or two in before DALMAC. As mentioned above you will find some of the nicest people on the DALMAC ride. If it wasn't so enjoyable I wouldn't be coming back but my son and I have just had nothing but fun every year and look forward to again this year.

Welcome Chris!! My boyfriend is a lower left leg amputee (and his name is Chris!); he is training with me this year so he can join me next year, but he's my private SAG this year. Unfortunately we are doing the 5 day West route, but we'll keep our eyes out for you on the last day. If you are ever in Lansing and want someone to ride with, let us know! :)

Chris, I am also a Right BKA. Going on three years September 27th. I rode the 2008 5 UP & crossed the Mackinac Bridge 11 months to the day of my accident & then onto DeTour. Last year, my wife joined & we did the same route. This year, we are going to the Soo. So we will see you. The people are WONDEFUL, definitely one of the favorite parts of the trip to me. I see your from Beaverton. I spend a lot of time in Beaverton, love the BT! (Beaverton Tavern) Best burritos around, & a kid's small will fill you up! We'll have to meet up sometime & bike. See you on DALMAC!
