South Dakotan looking for riders

Postby Fred » Tue Jun 15, 2010 1:15 pm

I'm a 53 year old guy that's flying in from South Dakota to ride in the 5 day UP tour. I've never done the ride before and don't know anyone. I'm looking to find folks to ride with and get to know. If interested, please respond.

You're almost certain to find someone along the ride to hang out with. But if you're looking for a ride partner, it would help to post what your average cruising speed might be.

Thanks for your suggestion. According to my Garmin, my average speed is 14.6 mph.

Howdy Fred - your ride coordinators are "Patman & Robin" we'd be happy to have you join us for Lasagna the night before here in Lansing and willing to accept any questions "offline" through the message system... We're looking forward to seeing if you win our prize for "longest distance travelled to get here" - are you commuting from SD to MI for the tour? (There is a posting about lasagna invitation to riders in the board around in here somewhere)... Camping and carspotting available, (not as an official Dalmac service - but just because we have a big yard)...

Hey Patman and Robin, thanks for the warm welcome. It's been well over 30 years since I had any fun in Michigan, and now as a 50-something guy I'm itching to return to see if the natives still know how to play. I'll be flying from South Dakota into Metro specifically for the DALMAC. My bicycle will come in a box via UPS ground. But once we're reunited, wheels reattached and ready to spin, we'll be ready to rock-n-roll. So tell me, how will I find you during DALMAC?

Hey Patman & Robin:

As ride coordinators, does that mean you're in charge of the lasagna fixins, or might you have some knowledge of the registration process too??? I registered online on June 13th, my VISA was charged for the registration, but I haven't received confirmation yet that I've been accepted as part of the UP ride. I see the registration is now closed for the UP ride and I'm wondering if I'm "in." Do you have any way to find out? PS -- How's your lasagna? -- Fred

Looks like Fred has beaten me by a bit on the distance. Coming from DC, but originally from Grand Ledge. :-)
